BADIN - Two-day Laar Festival is due to begin at Badin Gymkhana tomorrow (Oct 28) under the auspices of Sindh Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Department.

Different programmes, such as musical concerts, dances and an exhibition of handicrafts and embroidery, would be part of the festival, which is held to highlight the importance of Sindhi culture.

The festival would be declared open by PPP senior leader and Senator Sasui Palejo and MPA Muhammad Ismail Rahu.

A conference on literature would also be held on the same day and chaired by Dr Abdul Ghafoor Memon, Chairman, and Sindhi Language Authority (SLA).

Popular Sindhi singers, including Deba Sehar, Shafi Faqir, Allah Dino Junejo, Bejal Sindhi, Ahmed Mughal, Karim Kachhi, Mehboob Khaskheli, Shazia Tarnum, Badal Rahi and others will perform at the festival, while stalls would be set up to sell traditional clothes, quilts and other items.

A mushaira would be held during morning in which poets including Imdad Hussaini, Hafiz Nizamani, Maryam Majeedi, Niaz Hussain Pitafi, Ayaz Amar Shaikh, Amar Soomro and others will express their feelings.

Similarly, the famous drama, ‘The Death of Dodo Soomro’ will also be staged.

Talking to media persons, festival’s Chief Organiser Professor Abdullah Mallah said that the festival would help showcase the importance of our culture.

“All measures have been taken to organise the event in an organised manner,” he said.
