MATARAM, Indonesia (AFP) - A helicopter chartered by US giant Newmont Mining crashed in central Indonesia killing two people, a rescue official said Monday. The Bell 412 with two people on board including the pilot went missing on Sunday. A rescue team located the wreckage Monday in a valley in West Nusa Tenggara province. "The pilot and one passenger were found dead," provincial search and rescue chief Ida Bagus Gde Budisma told AFP. The helicopter, chartered from Air Fast Indonesia by Newmont Mining's local unit, lost contact two minutes after it took off from the company's mine site, heading for basecamp in Sumbawa district.
