Our Staff Reporter NANKANA SAHIB - Quality and standard education is need of the hour as our religion Islam has laid great stress on the importance of education for the betterment of human beings. Several verses of holy Quran have explained the need and importance of education. This was said by Lord Nazir Ahmed, British legislator of Pakistani-origin who was the chief guest at the annual prize distribution ceremony of London Grammar School (LGS) here the other day. A large number of notables of the district including, Chairman LGS Rai Nawaz Kharal, Principal Mirza Muhammad Iqbal, Markazi Anjuman Tajran General Secretary Sh Shahid Mahmood, Rai Aurangzeb Akber Kharal, hundreds of students along with teachers were present at the function. The students presented different skits, performed Milli songs and speeches. On the occasion, Lord Nazir emphasized the importance of good, state-of-the-art technical and other education in Pakistan. He said that due to improper teachers training, lack of funds and insufficient national and provincial education budgets were the main hurdles in the promotion of education. There is no single university in the country among the best 500 hundreds universities of the world, he disclosed. The people of Pakistan must develop pressure on the political parties for more educational budgets in the country, ensuring standard education, he suggested. Later, Lord Nazir distributed shields and prizes among best teachers and students. He also inaugurated the newly-constructed classes and road after him. Call to promote kitchen gardening: Deputy District Officer Agriculture Khalid Mahmood has urged the people to take interest in kitchen gardening which will not only help them fulfil their need for vegetables but also result in overcoming the shortage of vegetables in the country. While addressing a seminar on kitchen gardening at Govt Model High School, he said that his department was providing kitchen gardening technology to all and sundry free of cost at the doorsteps of citizens so they should get benefit from the scheme.
