LAHORE- Declaring the detention of Gullu Butt illegal, the Lahore High Court Friday ordered the Punjab Home Department to release him immediately.

Gull Butt had filed a petition against Punjab government for detaining him at Lahore Camp Jail. He said Lahore High Court had already granted him bail in the case of Model Town incident but the government violated the court’ order and took him to jail. He stated this act of the government is tantamount to contempt of court.

However, a law officer while representing Punjab Home Department said Gullu Butt was taken into custody as his release might be dangerous for already failing law and order situation. Upon which, the judge asked the law officer whether the officer who bucked him up to continue smashing vehicles parked outside Idara Minhajul Quran was tried. The officer replied the judge that the department had booked him in the case and had started an inquiry. After hearing both sides, Justice Qasim Khan declared the detention of Gullu Butt as illegal and ordered the government to release him immediately.

On August 11, a two-member bench of the Lahore High Court accepted the after arrest bail application filed by Gullu Butt. Although he had secured a bail from the upper court and now succeeded in challenging the detention by the government but Anti-Terrorism Court is holding his trial and has asked the prosecution to produce more witnesses in the case.

Almost all news channels caught Gullu Butt red-handed while he was ‘busy’ smashing vehicles and cars parked outside Idara Minhajul Quran on June 17 in Model Town.
