LAHORE - Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) Faisalabad Region is waiting for permission from Chief Ministers House or DG ACE to arrest some public representatives against whom it has registered cases and initiated inquiries. The ACE authorities have launched investigations against various town and tehsil nazims for their alleged involvement in embezzlement of millions of rupees, sources in the ACE revealed on Monday. According to details, the nazims against whom cases have been registered includes Town Nazim Lyallpur Sajjad Bhatti after the charges were established during the inquiry. His involvement is proved in the misappropriation of more than Rs 2 millions under the cover of installing streetlights in his area. A case has also been registered against Mian Talib, Tehsil Nazim Ahmadpur Sial District Jhang. During the inquiry, allegations were proved true as he minted money by overcharging in the head of collection of property tax. An ACE officer seeking anonymity said he received 2 percent property tax instead of one during collection, thus accumulated million of rupees illegally in the process. An inquiry has been initiated against Mehr Nazar Hayat Patuana, Tehsil Nazim Jhang, on the charges that he has pooled with the contractors to whom he used to award contracts for development schemes. Orders have also been issued to register a case against his deputy Dr Sajjad Ahmad, Naib Tehsil Nazim Jhang, for taking bribe of Rs 0.1 million from a contractor for clearing his bills. A case has been registered against Tehsil Nazim Jaranwala Mian Akram who was found involved in misusing powers while awarding contract to a contractor while overlooking the others who quoted minimum rates. An officer of ACE said that ACE would soon start arrests of the said accused persons, but being political arrests, approval from the Chief Minister House or DG ACE office was essential for further proceedings. He was of the view that these days ACE officials were busy in 'food related matters and soon after the end of wheat harvesting these persons would be arrested.
