LAHORE - Federal Tax Ombudsman Dr Shoaib Suddle has said that there is a need for implementation of such a grievance handling system in Pakistan which could help redress the grievances of the taxpayers in an efficient and transparent manner. He stated this while addressing the Probationary Officers of Income Tax Department here at the training institute of the DG of Training & Research (Inland Revenue) on Monday. Dr Shoaib Suddle, during his visit addressed the faculty of DOT and young officers of 36th Specialized Training Program, currently undergoing specialised training. The DG Mr Abdul Wadood Khan welcomed the guest speaker and introduced him dilating upon his works and achievements. This system, he said, should immediately attend to the complaints of the taxpayers and expedite the dispensation of justice just as in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where the position of disposal of grievance is personally monitored by the Prime Minister of Malaysia on weekly basis. About 80 per cent of the complaints are disposed off under the direct supervision of the Prime Minister himself on weekly basis, he added. He further said that there are more complications in the handling of refund cases by the department, which needed to be attended by the department more carefully and seriously. Dr Suddle had also launched an ambitious outreach and awareness program.
