LAHORE - Punjab has become the major victim of the massive loadshedding as Pepco is providing 700MW extra power to KESC from the due share of Punjab that is why since the last four days the duration of loadshedding has reached its pinnacle in the City as well as in the rural areas of the province. On Tuesday the Lahorities faced the loadshedding of 10-12 hours, while few days back the Pepco spokesman during media briefing had announced nine hours loadshedding in the City. The duration of loadshedding had always been on its peak in rural areas of Punjab, as different rural areas could not meet with even minimum respite from the massive loadshedding. According to the sources couple of days back the Pepco tried its level best to reduce extra power supply to 300MW to KESC from the total 700MW but due to pressures from high ups the authority failed to do so. The Lesco Director Operation talking to The Nation confirmed that Lesco was providing 700MW power to KESC from its quota. But the Lesco director operation refused to comment on the causes saying that only Pepco spokesman could give comment on it. However the Pepco spokesman did not attend the repeated phone calls on his mobile when he was not present in his office. Sources said Pepco had provided about 700MW electricity to the KESC on the pressures of some high ups that has further increased the duration of pinching loadshedding in the City and other areas of Punjab. Similarly energy conservation drive of the government has given no relief to the masses despite the closure of business activity in City at 8:00pm along with two holidays in a week. Drive against double connections intensified Lahore Electricity Supply Company (Lesco) has restarted campaign against the electricity consumers enjoying double source of supply (connections) in its jurisdiction. Lesco on Tuesday stated that the surveillance teams were working in different areas to detect the double source supply of electricity and during the operation, XEN Guleberg Division Rana Ismael led the operation at main bazaar Icchra and the Lesco team checked the electricity connections of Icchra and Rehm-anpura. The team removed the 19 electricity meters of the consumers of Ichhra and Rehamanpura who were enjoying the double connections of electricity illegally.
