KARACHI Young batsman Shahzaib Hasan, once again, demonstrated brilliant performance by striking 59 in 51 balls, as his team Sindh Dolphins defeated Federal Areas Leopards by six wickets to record its third straight win in the RBS one-day cup here on Monday night at the National Stadium. With on game in hand, the victory has placed Sindh team at the top with 12 points whereas this defeat has ousted Federal Areas Leopards out of the title race. The Federal Areas Leopards posted winnable 271 for eight wickets. But some fine aggressive batting from Shahzaib Hasan and Khurram Manzoor, who made 81 in 88 balls hitting nine fours, carried Sindh team to 273 for four with nine balls left. Khurram Manzoor got the man of the match award for his innings. Shahzaib Hasan, who has been scoring consistently in the competition, was more aggressive than Khurram. He hit ten fours in his quick fire knock, which came in the presence of Pakistans test pacer Shoaib Akhtar who is leading the Federal Areas Leopards. The competition is a big test for Shoaib Akhtar, who has entered the event to prove his match fitness before the selectors for home series against Australia in England after two months. Shoaib Akhtar has only once, in the current competition, successfully impressed when he took six wickets against a weak opposition, however, he failed to show some impressive performance against some good teams. Against Sindh Dolphins, he bowled the total quota of ten-over conceding 57 runs and taking just one wicket. However, junior blowers like Imad Wasim and Yasim Murtraza also took one wicket each by giving away fewer runs than the known pacer. Umar Amin led FA Leoprads batting, as he hit unbeaten 85 in 78 balls that boosted his teams total. Other major contribution came from Raheel Majeed 49 in 57 balls with six fours and one six. Naeem Anjum got 24 and Naveed Malik 26. Sindhs Anwar Ali and Asad Shafiq took two wickets each for 62 and 37 runs respectively. Danish Kaneria got one wicket for 41 and Lal Kumar one for 30. Sindh Dolphins got off to roaring start when they went for the target. Khurram Manzoor and Shahzaib Hasan spared no shot in the book to score and hit opponents bowlers all over the field. Shoaib Akhtar, who was expected to give first breakthrough to his team, could not do much to stop these batsmen as runs flowed freely. After Khurram and Shahzaib, Asad Shafiq made a good contribution of 52 in 81 balls and Hasan Raza got unbeaten 29 in 33 balls, as Sindh team reached the target with nine balls to spare in the match.
