ISLAMABAD/Peshawar - Three army soldiers including an officer were killed and three others sustained injuries when their vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED) in the border area of North and South Waziristan on Sunday night.

According to ISPR, three security forces personnel including an officer embraced shahadat (martyrdom) and three others sustained critical injuries due to an IED planted by terrorists on a roadside at the border of the two agencies.

Earlier in the day, Peshawar police thwarted a major terror bid by defusing 70-kilogram explosive material including suicide jackets Chamkani area of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa capital, while a policeman was killed when unknown persons opened firing on him.

Police said that explosive material was packed in two bags and it was planted near a police check post in Chamkani area. After receiving timely information police called the bomb disposal squad to defuse the suicide jackets and other explosive material.

Meanwhile in a separate incident, a policeman was killed and another got injured when unknown persons opened firing on them in a local hotel at Khazana area of Peshawar. According to police, Siraj Gul and Akhtar Ali were busy in taking lunch when armed persons on a bike came and opened firing on them, which resulted into killing of Gul and injuring of Ali. The injured was shifted to hospital for treatment where his condition was stated to be stable. Police launched a search operation and registered an FIR against unknown persons.



Monitoring Desk adds: Two rockets were fired in Peshawar Airport late Sunday night, reported a private TV channel.

According to the channel, one rocket was landed outside the Peshawar Airport. However the other hit the runway of the airport. Officials rushed to the runway and were assessing the damage caused by the rocket. It was not yet clear where the damage was serious enough to suspend the flights.

No loss of live was reported in the attack.
