Polio case surfaces up after Karachi campaign completes

KARACHI  - A polio case surfaced in Gadap area of the provincial capital on Sunday. Sources in Health Department said a 7-month-old boy is detected with a polio virus.
Gadap Town is enlisted as high-risk area for polio. However, sources told that lack of adequate arrangements in the area could be a reason for emergence of polio case.
Mostly polio cases are detected in Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa district where polio vaccinators find it difficult to immunise children against polio due to security reasons.
Meanwhile, authorities on Sunday completed one-day anti-polio vaccination drive in 25 union councils of Karachi while pillion-riding was banned on the occasion.
The ban remained effective from 8am to 6pm on Sunday in the union councils declared 'sensitive'.
Officials said health workers have been given security by police and Rangers in all the areas during immunisation drive.
