LAHORE - Youngsters came from behind to give tough challenge to experienced players in the 29th National Chess Championship fifth round Sunday. International Master and defending national champion Mahmood Lodhi has to be contented with a draw against his young opponent Syed Ahmad Ali. Lodhi had a better position in the later stages of the game but Ahmad Ali managed to achieve the draw. In other matches, Wasim Gul of Sargodha, who is current Punjab champion, also drew with International player and Candidate Master Anwar Qureshi from Hyderabad. International Master Shahzad Mirza consolidated his position by winning his game in fifth round and now stands among the leaders. All the games were played under direct supervision of arbiters to curb any chances of foul play.–Staff Reporter
