Walk against obesity

ISLAMABAD - A large number of people from twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad participated in the walk arranged here to spread awareness about the major causes and treatment of obesity.
The walk, arranged by VAGUS Foundation, started from Centaurus Mall and ended at F-8 Markaz. Dr Rana Irfan, renowned Hair Restoration Surgeon and Pioneer VAGUS Foundation organized the event.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Irfan said the purpose of organizing the event was to create awareness among the masses about the epidemics that kill millions each year around the world.
Pakistan is one of the countries where obesity is increasing rapidly, and not many know that obesity stimulates several other harmful diseases, including heart conditions, cancer etc.
He added that VAGUS Foundation has taken the initiative to educate people about the harmful effects of obesity through the event.  Dr Ghulam Nabi Qazi, representing World Health Organization said that understanding obesity is the first step to eradicate it in Pakistan. Most people do not understand the importance of good health and weight”.
Director Health Capital Development Authority, Dr Hassan Arooj addressed the participants of the walk and said obesity is the major cause of many diseases like high blood pressure and diabetes and added 26 percent of women and 19 percent of men in Pakistan are obese.
Former Chairman Bait ul Mal Zamurd Khan addressing the participants of the walk said that working for social causes like obesity is the best form of health services one can offer.
He added that he has always been a staunch supporter of social causes and a healthy Pakistan, for the same purpose he supports Say No to Obesity campaign.

At the end of the walk, renowned Fitness and Public Health Trainer, Saeed, addressed the participants about the necessity of physical activities in their daily routines with physical elaboration that can prevent obesity.
All the members of the event also got a free check-up of Body Mass Index (BMI). The event concluded with resolution by all the participants to eliminate the curse of obesity from Pakistan in the years to come.
