LAHORE - Renowned actress Rohi Bano came under a knife attack by unknown assailants in Gulberg area who fled after ripping her earlobes for gold earrings, police sources told the media on Monday.
Once a leading TV star, Rohi had lost the balance of her mind after her son’s murder some ten years ago. Very often, she escaped out of her dilapidated house in Gulberg - one of the posh area of city - and roamed around.
On Monday, some passersby saw two men riding on a motorcyclist manhandling a woman on a busy road. Before they approached, the assailants fled away. She was bleeding from her neck and was taken to Services Hospital where doctors stitched her. Police sources said Bano had suffered a cut on her neck and injuries on her face besides several other bruises.
Although she was discharged from the hospital after receiving proper medical treatment, Bano was not in best of her condition.
She was escorted back to her home by Gulberg police station. One of the officer on duty said a register would be registered once the complainant submit an application.
Soon after the media reported the incident, a government spokesman said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had taken notice of the robbery. The chief minister has sought a report from Lahore DIG (Operations), he added.
The veteran TV star had abandoned her career following the killing of her only son. He was found murdered near his residence in Gulberg-III. The killer(s) dumped his body alongside a fence which was spotted by passersby after they heard his cellphone ringing.
She lost her mental balance after witnessing the body of her only son. The actress was admitted to the Fountain House for years. Presently, she is living in solitude in her Gulberg house.
