Zardari for president

Asif Zardari leads the largest party in the country whose drive to impeach Musharraf persuaded the General to quit after nine tumultuous years in power. From the earlier stance that "we can live with President Musharraf" to his statement that "Musharraf is a relic of the past" was a journey PPP did in four months. It had to face a lot of opposition at a lot of fronts but it succeeded at last. Now a presidential race will take place on September 6 and the PPP has nominated Asif Zardari for it. Insecurity, uncertainty over the future of the government and economic worries have undermined investor confidence and sent the country's financial markets on a downward spiral. It's high time everybody joined hands with PPP and accepted presidential nomination of the ruling party to avoid further unrest in our homeland. -AYESHA FAISAL, Lahore, August 26.
