The recent brutal murder of two teen aged boys in Sialkot by 'dunda-wielding ruffians in presence of uniformed policemen reminds one of Taliban of Swat who used to hang dead bodies in streets. The incident shows a complete breakdown of law and order with police in complicity, the sort of administrative crime that ought to be dealt with all the severity CM Punjab can muster. Remember, the murder of a Deputy Speaker of National Assembly, after a chair thrown at him caused has death was the triggering factor for General Ayub Khans Martial Law. To his credit, Ayub Khan at least built Tarbela and Mangla dams that provided lasting benefits to Pakistan. His followers in Presidency, whether in uniform or in 'civvies, failed to build a single dam afterwards. That one mistake has now landed Pakistan in a bowl of hot soup, so to say. Indian leaders were wise enough to make dams so they are now in position to slowly release water after filling up even if that causes aggravation of floods in Pakistan. We could have learned a lesson or two from India in this regard. -DR. M. YAQOOB BHATTI, Lahore, August 26
