How unprecedented

Pakistan is dealing with a great catastrophe, having over 20 million affected people who have lost billions of dollars worth in rush of waters. Our stumbling economy has been pushed back 30-40 years, they say. The country is mourning the losses, human as well as material and it seems the entire populace now wiles its time awaiting help that is supposed to arrive from abroad. The international communities are sending millions of dollars and people here are also volunteering in great number to participate in relief activity with a solemn determination to make sure the whole procedure is transparent. In times like this, one is flabbergasted by the news that aid from the UN is being sold openly in Karachi. One of my relatives actually saw someone having biscuits with seals of the UN food program. The other shocking news one read was about some policeman being caught red-handed while taking away the aid from victims. These are no isolated cases being highlighted by the media. There are many traitors in our midst who fearlessly commit these crimes of brutality, not fearing even the Allah Almighty. -S. HASSAN NAQVI, Karachi, August 27.
