ISLAMABAD : The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has ordered to constitute two separate committees to probe into the reports regarding not allowing the female voters to cast votes in the by-elections in NA-5 Nowshera and NA-27 Lakki Marwat. In a press release issued here, the ECP said that the committees would be led by the district returning officer (DRO) concerned and they would include the RO, deputy commissioner and district police officer concerned.

The committees would send their reports to the ECP within a week after their constitution. The committees shall be constituted upon the receipt of a related letter sent by the ECP to provincial election commissioner Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The electoral body said that each committee so constituted shall complete its respective inquiry and submit its report clearly indicating the number and name of polling stations where female voters were restrained from casting their votes and re-poll is required to be held as a result of such inquiry.

The PEC KPK in the light of inquiry reports will determine the logistical requirements including number of ballot papers to be printed for the purpose and send a proposal to the ECP immediately.

The Peshawar High Court had ordered re-polling in the said constituencies while taking suo moto notice of reports that women at certain polling stations of the two constituencies were denied the right to vote during August 22 by-polls.
