NCA gets head after three years

LAHORE - The National College of Arts (NCA) has finally received a permanent principal after three years of management messes. Prof Dr Murtaza Jafri has been appointed as new principal of NCA on Monday after the approval by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Prof Dr Murtaza Jafri will assume his charge as principal on Wednesday (today) replacing acting principal Dr Shabnum Khan. It may be mentioned here that the NCA was running headless since Nazish Ataullah retired in 2010. During these three years, Bashir Ahmed, Prof Sajjad Kausar and Dr Shabnum Khan served the college in different phases as acting principals.
The faculty members view the appointment of a principal as good sign for the college. They welcomed the appointment of Dr Jafri and expressed their hope that he would further boost the standard in the historic college.
Dr Jafri is enjoying great respect from the faculty, administrative staff and students also. He has been serving the college since 1987. Besides teaching experience, Dr Jafri has also served the college as registrar for many years. Dr Jafri had worked as Director National Council of the Arts also.
Prof Dr Murtaza Jafri is a graduate from Chelsea College of Arts, London, Montreal University and Concordia University Montreal and did doctoral and post doctoral studies at AVA London and Cambridge. He has supervised a number of PhD and Mphil students from various universities. Before his appointment as NCA principal, he has been working as director MA (Hons) and director traditional art programs since 2007.
PU Moot: Punjab University Institute of Education and Research is organising the 4th Post Graduate Students Conference 2013 on “Comparative Education: Needs and Trends in 21st Century” on today (Wednesday) at Waheed Shaheed Hall. Eminent experts will enlighten the participants on the topic.
Faculty member honored: Lambart Academic Publishing, Germany has published a book titled “Digital Libraries: Perception of LIS Professionals in Pakistan” by Dr Khalid Mahmood, a professor at PU Department of Library and Information Sciences. PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran has congratulated him on this achievement.
