ISLAMABAD - Inter Provincial Coordination Minister Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada declared Asian Cadet & Junior Table Tennis Championship open in a very impressive and colorful ceremony at Rodham Hall, Pakistan Sports Complex Wednesday.

Javed Mirza, Joint Secretary IPC, Director General Pakistan Sports Board Dr Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera, Pakistan Table Tennis Federation president Syed M Sibtain, DDG Facilities Agha Amjed Ullah, director Azam Dar, deputy director hostels Malik Imtiaz along with other dignitaries were present on the occasion. Participating teams also presented a march past amid warm applause.

Speaking at the occasion Mian Riaz thanked all the participating teams and lauded PTTF for arranging such a wonderful event at a time when Pakistan is facing international sporting isolation. He also hailed DG PSB and entire staff for putting up extra-ordinary efforts and preparing the venue in just 1-week time. Later minister distributed souvenirs among all the team, officials, judge, and referees as a sign of goodwill gesture. He thanked security forces for giving clearance to teams at a time when situation was very tricky.

A total of eight events each in both cadet and U-18 categories were held on the opening day. It was not a day to remember for the hosts as they failed to win a single match in both categories, while favourites India maintained their supremacy and sent a clear warning to all the rivals, as they remained unbeaten on the opening day matches.

In the boy's U-18 team event, India beat Bangladesh 3-0, Utkarsh beat Javed 3-0, 11-2, 11-5 and 11-6, Lalrinpvia beat Imran 3-0, 11-2, 11-5 and 11-7, while Sabhya beat Mufral 3-0, 11-5, 11-7 and 11-7.

In the second match Sri Lanka beat Maldives 3-0, Supuna beat Zeesth 3-0, 11-5, 11-7 and 11-6, Parsad beat Maizar 3-0,11-8, 11-6 and 11-3, Krishan beat Maadh 3-0, 11-8, 11-4 and 11-4, in the third match Sri Lanka beat Nepal 3-0, Supuna beat Mani 3-2, 11-7, 11-5, 7-11, 8-11 and 11-9, Parsad beat Krishna 3-1, 11-7, 11-9, 8-11 and 11-6, Krishan beat Aahil 3-0, 11-6, 11-4 and 119, in the 4th match India beat Pakistan 3-0, Gupta beat Rameez 3-1, 11-9, 3-11, 11-3 and 11-9, Lalrinpvia beat Salman 3-0, 11-6, 11-5 and 117, Virmani beat Aahil Shah 3-0, 11-6, 11-4 and 11-9.
