Last chance for Punjab govt over Aitchison recruitments

LAHORE- The Lahore High Court on Wednesday gave the last chance to the Punjab government for submitting its reply on a petition challenging illegal and against the merit-recruitments in Aitchison College.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Azhar Siddique, stated before Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza that the Aitchison College had a history of great significance in the entire region. He said that the college students had played a pivotal role in the development of the country and had brought it a good name worldwide. But unfortunately, the politically-backed appointments at the college had damaged not only its standard of education as well as its sanctity it had earned from the foundation day, he appointed out.
The petitioner pleaded the court to set aside the illegal appointments at the college. Quoting the previous order, he said that the government did not respond to the previous notice of the court which was tantamount to the contempt of court.
After hearing the arguments of petitioner’s counsel, the LHC judge expressed serious dismay over the negligence of the government authorities and gave the last chance to them with directions to submit reply on next date of hearing. The court will resume hearing on September 3rd.
