LAHORE - Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi of the Lahore High Court Thursday referred a petition to chief justice for constitution of a large bench to hear a petition challenging the powers of the LHC registrar.

A lawyer petitioner Advocate AK Dogar had filed the petition and contended that under article 190 of the constitution petitions are filed in LHC against violation of fundamental rights enshrined in the constitution but the registrar office put objections on them which is tantamount to assuming judicial power.

The petitioner pointed out that it is the prerogative of court to declare a petition maintainable or maintainable but registrar has delegated this power to clerks.

He further argued that putting objection on petition by registrar office is impeding the way of speedy and timely dispensation of justice.

After hearing arguments, Justice Naqvi referred the petition to CJ for constitution of a full bench for the hearing of the petition.
