President’s Khyber visit fruitless, claim parties

KHYBER AGENCY - President Mamnoon's visit to Landi Kotal tehsil was unproductive and a complete failure, leaders of Khyber Political Alliance alleged yesterday.
President Mamnoon Hussain visited tehsil Landi Kotal and delivered a traditional written speech which had no concern with the problems of the tribesmen, they said.
Leaders of different political parties including president Pakistan People’s Party Khyber chapter Hazrat Wali, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Abdul Raziq, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) Said Kabir, ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Jamrud Zerghoon Shah and representative of MNA Nadeem Afridi, talking to media men at Landi Kotal Press Club, said the tribesmen had rendered great sacrifices in the war against terrorism and infrastructure in tribal belt had been totally destroyed but ironically, they added, the president ignored their problems in his speech.
The local political leaders alleged that governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the political administration hijacked the most awaited president's visit and did not let the chief guest announce any mega development project for the welfare of the tribesmen.
"We were hoping that the president will announce reforms in the draconian Frontier Crime Regulation (FCR) but to no avail," they remarked.
The officially written demand sheet was handed over to a tribal elder by the political administration that doesn't highlight sufferings of the tribal people.
They added that even the MNA and senator were not permitted to speak on the occasion to apprise the president of the problems of the area.
The Khyber Political Alliance would shortly chalk out its future line of action to record their protest, they concluded.
