Govt not decide to approach IMF yet, says Asad Umar

Federal Minister for Finance Asad Umar has said that government has made no decision yet to reach Internation Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout package.

Asad expressed these views while speaking on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday.

We are consulting on the prevailing economic situation in the country and the final decision will be taken after the Parliment on board, he said.

"If Pakistan decides to go to the IMF programme, it won't be the first time that Pakistan has gone to the IMF programme. We have gone to the programme 12 times previously,” Asad said.

He told the Senate that before our government there was no question on which country’s banks had given loans to Pakistan.

National Finance Commission Award, is a constitutional obligation and after assuming office I directed the finance secretary to initiate the process for the new NFC Award, Finance Minister Asad stated.
