Taseer says jugglers wont succeed in their designs

LAHORE - PPP-led government will complete its constitutional term but if the situation arises party is also ready to take part in the mid-term polls, said Punjab Governor Salman Taseer. He was addressing a public gathering at Township on Sunday in connection with second death anniversary of slain party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto. He said that jugglery of few people could not bring down the elected government and if a situation arises for the mid-term polls, PPP was capable of defeating any one on the basis of massive public support. Taseer said it was astonishing that a few jugglers talking on a TV channel were demanding resignation from a democratically elected President. These actors must know that the PPP government and President Zardari would complete their term in office and all the 'opponents should have to wait for the completion of term of the government and President. President and Prime Minister were elected by the same assembly and Zardari did not grab power through a martial law order. He said it was the prerogative of both President and Prime Minister to distribute powers between them. Coming hard on critics, he said it was really strange that a few 'losers wanted the President who was supported by the largest party of the country to resign. Giving credit to the President, he said it was Zardaris government that took several remarkable steps after assuming power. He said the success of NFC Award was a great credit of PPP government and no person other than Zardari was the real 'man of the match for this achievement. Taseer said election in Gilgit-Baltistan and grant of province-like status to it was another credit of the PPP government. He said in the 9th clause of Charter of Democracy, it was pledged that autonomy would be given to the units of federation and PPP government had taken the first step in this regard. Governor said it was PPPs government, which solved the issue of two million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) after Swat operation and ensured their safe return to their homes within three months, quite contrary to the prediction of those who stated the issue could not be tackled even in five years. He said for the first time in history, there was an Opposition enjoying all facilities and there was no political prisoner. Taseer said the PM deserved all praise for regularly attending the session while Punjab CM did not bother to attend the provincial assembly session regurarly. The PPP in spite of that PPP did not raise the issue at any forum. He said the Shaheed Chairperson has a political career of around 30 years during which she was in power for only five years and rest was associated with the struggle against usurpers for the sake of democracy and federation. He said no other family in the entire world underwent such oppression that Bhuttos faced and its main members lost their lives. He said PPP was the largest party of federation which ruled the country for six times and all parties including PML-N, PML-Q kept contesting against it but PPP retained its individuality and strength. Members of PPP Punjab and Lahore organization also addressed on the occasion. Earlier, a Quran Khwani, organized by President PPP 153 Mian Tariq was also held on the venue. The participants also lit candles and prayed for the December 27 martyrs. Meanwhile, a ceremony to observe PPPs Chairperson death anniversary was held at party provincial secretariat, which was attended by Rana Aftab, president Punjab, Samiullah Khan, secretary general and other leaders of provincial chapter. In the ceremony, Quran Khawani was held and the leaders and workers also offered fateha for their slain leader. A candle lit ceremony was also held at Old Anarkali in which PPP Punjab Secretary Infomation Dr Fakhr and others lit lamps with their blood and paid homage to the Shaheed PPP leader Benazir Bhutto.
