Government counsel in Benazir Bhutto assassination case, Ch Zulfiqar Ahmed has alleged that police high-ups former DIG Saud Aziz and SSP Khurram Shahzad were facilitators of the assassins who killed the former Prime Minister. Talking to BBC, he said if SSP Ashfaq Anwar deployed at Benazir Bhuttos security had not given his confessional statement, he would have also been in FIA custody like Saud and Khurram. The said police officials were deployed in Rawalpindi when Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in a suicide attack in Liaquat Bagh on Dec 27, 2007. Ch Zulfiqar said SSP Ashfaq Anwar in his statement has said that he had been directed by the then Rawalpindi police head Saud Aziz to move to the Karaal Chowk alongwith his 36 personnel deployed at Benazirs security. On the same day, at least four people had been killed when some assailants opened indiscriminate firing on PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharifs election campaign rally at the Karaal Chowk.
