All our lives we teach our children to keep themselves clean. But we do not get to witness any practical implementation. There is not a single city in Pakistan where we do not witness litter on the roads. All our fellowmen who do not take care of cleanliness in their home country, when go abroad, suddenly become law abiding citizens. Here in Pakistan they take their independent state for granted because they know that they will not be penalised for littering on roads and pavements. Unfortunately, even the people who realise don't follow the rules because they think their contribution won't make any difference.

MOHAMMAD USMAN KHAN,
