ISLAMABAD - Many taxi stands are set up in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi without having proper authorization of concern authorities causing mess and inconvenience for the citizens.
A survey conducted by APP found, that there are scores of unlawful taxi stands in many areas of twin cities causing accidents and disturbance for the people who use the roads for entry and exit because presence of these cabbies make the entry and exit points narrow for traffic.
Many people, including businessmen, government servants, old citizens and students have to cross the chowk in order to reach their destination. However, they have to face a lot of difficulties due to the illegal taxi stand. One can witness traffic jams at any time during the day, particularly during rush hours. It takes one hour by car to cover a 10-minute distance.
The citizens said that we strongly protest against the illegal occupation of cabbies and we demanded to the concern authority to take immediate action against these illegal taxi stands.
When contacted to Islamabad Traffic Police senior official said that traffic police were also facing problems due to these illegal taxi stands.
He said that CDA must allocate a proper place for setting up bus/taxi stands, and if it was not possible then the authority should remove all these illegal bus/taxi stands.
