The I Knew You Were Trouble singer beat British boyband One Direction to the top spot of the 20 Celebs Gone Good list by social change organisation DoSomething.org. Taylor, 24, whose philanthropic efforts include performing in aid of homeless people and donating thousands of dollars to charity on her own birthday, is number one in the list for the second year in a row.
One Direction were second after their work with Comic Relief and individual efforts to do their bit for others, such as Harry Styles’ and Liam Payne’s fundraising efforts for cancer research. Beyonce was third and late Fast And Furious star Paul Walker was fourth. The actor’s charity work came under the spotlight following his death in a car accident on November 30, the day he helped to host a charity event for victims of Typhoon Haiyan. The top 10 was rounded out by chart stars Macklemore And Ryan Lewis, actresses Sandra Bullock and Kerry Washington, Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder, American Idol host Ryan Seacrest and singer Carrie Underwood.
“It’s pretty amazing that the top two spots on the list are held by celebrities under age 25,” said Naomi Hirabayashi, CMO of DoSomething.org. “For the first time, 50 percent of the list is age 30 or younger. This rising generation is using their money and star power for good.” Coming in third is Paul Walker, whose passing brought worldwide awareness to his philanthropic efforts. On the day of his death, he co-hosted a charity event for Philippines Typhoon victims, and Universal recently announced that a portion of the proceeds from DVD sales of Fast & Furious 6 will benefit Walker’s Reach Out WorldWide, which helps with disaster-relief efforts.
