LAHORE - Ahmed Ali Tiwana steered Wanhar Valley to a thrilling 7-6½ victory over Newage in the Guard Group Polo Cup 2015 final played here at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) on Sunday.

Ahmed Ali Tiwana was hero the day as he hammered sterling six goals and Bilal Hayat Noon hit one for Wanhar Valley while for Newage, which had half goal handicap advantage, Hashim Ali Agha scored three goals while Agha Musa Ali Khan, Alman Jalil Azam and Sufi M Haroon had one goal each.

The first chukker of the final saw one goal each from both the side as Hashim hit one for Newage while Ahmed Tiwana smashed one for Wanhar Valley. Newage players exhibited their prowess in the high-voltage second chukker scoring three back-to-back goals – one each by Hashim, Agha Musa and Alman Jalil – to bring the total to 4-1. But Wanhar players staged a strong comeback and pumped in three back-to-back goals – all by Ahmed Tiwana – to level the score 4-4 at the end of the chukker.

In the third chukker, Sufi Haroon struck one to stretch Newage’s lead to 5-4, but it proved too short as Wanhar’s Ahmed Tiwana and Bilal Hayat scored one goal each to finish the chukker 6-5. The fourth and last chukker witnessed both the teams displaying quality polo and fighting for each and every goal. Newage’s Hashim took the initiative and hit a superb goal to level the score 6-6. But Ahmed Tiwana once again proved his mettle and struck a match-winning goal to help Wanhar Valley 7-6 ½ goals triumph. Agha Murtaza Ali Khan and Taimur Ali Malik officiated the match as umpires. In the thrilling subsidiary final, Guard Filters beat Barry’s six goals to five. For winners, Hassan Ali Farrukh struck three goals while Shehryar Bukhari, Taimur Ali Malik and Omer Asjad Malhi had one goal each. For the losers, Shah Shamyl Alam scored four goals while Jamil Ur Rehman Barry added one. Chaudhry Hayat Mehmood and Irfan Sheikh were the umpires.
