LAHORE – The Lahore Transport Company on Wednesday said to issue 10,000 cards to senior citizens to travel free in the public transport at city routes.

In a meeting the LTC Chairman apprised the board about operational status of various urban routes including RA Bazar, Jallo/ Wahga, Railway Station, Green Town, Defense, Chunghi Amarsidhu, Thokar Niaz Baig, Model Town, Liaqatabad, Bhaati, Nishtar Colony and others. The Board approved Pink Bus Service as a regular scheme.

 “The Lahore Transport Company inducted 500 state of the art buses on 33 urban routes. Many dysfunctional routes have been functional by the endeavors of LTC,” said Khawaja Ahmed Hassan, the Chairman of the LTC. The Company held that it provided modern transport facilities in Muridkey, Kamonki, Chunian, Kasur, Sheikhupura and Marrak by connecting these cities with Lahore.

“Metro bus service is the brain child of the LTC,” added Ahmed Hassan.

Secretary Transport Wasim Mukhtar, City Traffic Officer Capt (r) Sohail Chaudhry, CEO LTC Khawaja Haider Latif and other attended the meeting.

Khawaja Hassan said that LTC planned the metro bus service and in this regard delegation led by Chief Minister visited the Korea and Turkey and observed the bus rapid transit system. He added:

“Around 200 old buses had been refurbished under the process followed and recommended by the technical committee formed for this purpose. Moreover student green card scheme was initiated to facilitate the students to get benefit from discount in transport fare.”

Mubashir Hassan foresees change: Pakistan Peoples Party (SB), Punjab President, Dr Mubashir Hassan foresees change in the country. While addressing a press conference, Dr Mubashir said that the steps taken by the PPP government had been proved hollow and the masses were not ready to be duped by sweet dreams any more. “A time of change has approached”, he said while speaking in the context of upcoming elections.

To a question, Dr Hassan said that Pakistan was facing no threat from India or any other country but from the enemies inside. He said that people had lost the confidence in major parties. A group of people from South Punjab also announced joining the PPP (SB) on the occasion.
