LAHORE - The Pakistan Army Athletics Championship began at Mehfooz Shaheed Garrison Sports Complex on Wednesday.

The eight-day tournament will be participated by nine teams belonging to different zones. Garrison Commander Lahore Major General Shahid Beg Mirza was the chief guest who declared the games open.

The tournament began with fanfare where, besides Army band display, a march past of participating athletes was held. On the opening day, Quetta Zone won the cross country race while Gujranwala Zone and Rawalpindi Zone were second and third, respectively. In the 100 metres heats, Havildar Imran Niazi, Havildar Khalil and Sepoy Ubaid qualified on the first day.
