HAFIZABAD - Contrary to the directive of the provincial government, more than 20 illegal housings colonies were being set up in the city allegedly in collusion with some officials of Revenue Department and Tehsil Municipal Administration.

Most of the owners of these colonies have neither developed the sites nor provided basic amenities such as gas, electricity, water, metal roads, mosques and parks, which are pre-requisite for setting up colonies.  According to insiders, the owners have also inflicted loss to the national exchequer by not paying the taxes to the TMA or Revenue Department. It is irony that the owners were selling plots to the citizens who have also started construction of buildings in violation of the rules and regulations of the government, Revenue Department and TMA.

CHILDREN’S PARK REMAINS UNDEVELOPED: Local citizens have called upon the DCO and TMA authorities to properly develop a Children Park in Fawara Chowk for providing recreational facilities to the minors.

They pointed out that on the request of former DCO Abrar Ahmad Mirza, Ex-Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif of Lahore High Court had given the old Civil Court buildings to the District Administration with the condition that old Kachehri Road would be widened and about two kanal land, in which barroom etc were located, should be converted into children park. The then DCO fulfilled his undertaking by widening the road and earmarked about two kanals land for Children Park. But the old barroom has not been demolished and the park remains undeveloped.

District Citizens Association has called upon the DCO to name the   park after the name of Khawaja Sharif and order for the demolition of old barroom and develop the park by planting ornamental flowers for providing pleasant atmosphere in the Fawara Chowk as well as to provide better recreational facilities to the children.
