Rescuers exhibit life-saving art


LAHORE – Founding Director General 1122 Dr Rizwan Naseer on Wednesday said that the 1122 equipped with modern techniques and equipments to meet the future challenges, has become the largest emergency humanitarian organisation of the country.
Naseer said during the detailed briefing session on the Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) for TheNation Editor Salim Bokhari.
During visit of the Rescue 1122 head office, Bokhari had been briefed on to how rescuers work in case of any kind of emergency. He visited fire stalls, medical stalls, collapsed structure search and rescue, deep well rescue, fire extinguishing for high rise building and other arrangements.
“Rescue 1122 has provided rescue to over 1,722,409 victims of emergencies maintaining its average response time of seven minutes,” held the DG. He briefed the editor about operational management and administration of the service. The DG said that the rescue 1122 believed in saving lives and changing minds and that the institution was implementing the community safety programme included capacity building of community emergency response teams, school safety programme and others. Emergency services academy had been established for establishment of sustainable human resource development in the field of emergency management which had been long neglected in the country.
Salim Bokhari, later addressing the gathering of emergency officers, appreciated the work of rescuers and their team leader. He gave credit to Punjab former chief minister Ch Pervaz Elahi for the establishment of such great institute as well as lauded the efforts of sitting Punjab CM Shahbaz for further improving it. “Thank God, this great institute has not been politicised rather its capacity further improved,” he remarked. Bokhari stressed upon the federal and Punjab government to make more resources of Rescue 1122 which he said had become a state of the art organisation of the country.
Salim Bokhari highlighted the need for establishing more institutions like 1122 in government and private sector for the development of the country.
“You are doing a great job for the humanity”, he said while appreciating rescuers.
