“Educational scholarships worth Rs1.62 billion will be awarded to 28,000 students under the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) programme,” said MPA Begum Fauzia Ayub Qureshi said on Wednesday.

Addressing a prize distribution ceremony at Government Girls’ Degree College, she said the scholarships would be given to students in 11 districts of the Punjab including Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan.  She said that providing equal opportunities and scholarships to the bright and deserving students was the positive step of the Punjab government.

Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Educational Endowment Fund Manager Rana Nasir Subhani said scholarships were awarded to students who took top positions in secondary school examinations in 2013. He said, “Bright and hardworking students should make use of the programme.”

Subhani said that as many as 5,000 students were awarded scholarships in the first phase. “The number has now gone up to 57,000,” he added. He said the students were given scholarship cards and PIN codes. He said the scholarship amount could be withdrawn from any branch of the Punjab Bank.

Clean-up drive ordered: The district administration has directed the assistant commissioners of the respective tehsils to launch massive operation against encroachments across the district, after giving due time of clearing the encroachments.

Imran Sikandar Baloch expressed these views while chairing a meeting in connection with the anti-encroachment campaign at the DCO Office here the other day. He directed the TMAs to divide encroachment operation into zones. Imran Sikandar ordered the establishment of a control room at the DCO Office so that quick action could be taken on the complaint of any encroachment.  While discussing about action against state land grabbers, he directed that each inch of state land would be retrieved from land grabbers and action in this regard was been taking on daily basis.

The also DCO directed to fix the timings of heavy traffics entering in the city considering the problems of traffic and their solution.

HE also directed to take effective steps to stop water theft, tree theft and other crimes.  He also ordered DO Labour Jamshed Farooq to ensure the proper monitoring of the measuring instruments installed on the petrol pumps.
