MPs to get money instead of air tickets

ISLAMABAD - The National Assembly Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs Friday approved an amendment draft to change rules for members of the parliament to give them lumpsum amount in lieu of air tickets and other travel allowances.
Earlier, lawmakers had approached the NA Speaker and asked for the amendment in the rules to pay them lump sum amount instead of vouchers. An official of the NA Secretariat said that there were audit objections on vouchers. The committee discussed salary and allowances draft rules and decided that proposed amendment will be inserted in said rules for provision of lump sum amount to the members of the National Assembly in lieu of air tickets and vouchers etc.
The committee met here in the Parliament House under the chairmanship of Mian Abdul Mannan, MNA regarding to consider the Draft Rules for Members of Parliament (Salaries and Allowances), 2015. The committee also discussed the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), and up-gradation of IT infrastructure and development of IT human resources in Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.
The committee also directed Ministry of Finance and Planning Commission to release full-required amount for upgrading infrastructure and development of IT Human Resources in Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.
The committee recommended PSDP project submitted by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs on up-gradation of infrastructure and development of IT Human Resources in Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs as required under rule 201, Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007.
The committee meeting was attended by MNAs Dr. Muhammad Afzal Khan Dhndla, Dr.Nisar Ahmed Jatt, Sheikh Muhammad Akram, Rasheed Ahmed Khan, Ms Arifa Khalid Pervez, Ms Belum Hasain, Ms. SHahida Rehmani, Dr Nafisa Shah, Salim Rehman, Ms Shhjean Munir Mangio besides senior officers from Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. SMART METERS TO BE INSTALLED FROM JULY, PAC TOLD
Online adds: Public Accounts Committee (PAC) while expressing resentment over financial irregularities of Rs 830 million detected by audit in the accounts of Wapda in the financial year 2007-8 has directed the concerned authorities to recover immediately the looted money.
Sub-Committee of PAC met here on Friday under Ashiq Gopang to discuss the audit objections raised by audit through 46 paras in respect of accounts of Wapda for the year 2007-8.
It was disclosed during the meeting that some power distribution companies have charged additional bills by billing additional units to the consumers to cover its line losses.
This is an attempt to show zero line losses in respect of some feeders while zero line losses stands ruled out being the distribution system of WAPDA old.
PAC also expressed annoyance over extending facility of free supply of electricity to WAPDA employees and stressed that the existing policy be changed in this respect.
Secretary Water and Power Yunus Dhaga told the Committee that smart meters will be installed in the country to curb power stealing.
US has promised to provide financial assistance on this count.
PC-1 of this project has been worked out and new smart meters will be installed in place of old meters throughout the country from June and July of this year.
