ISLAMABAD - Less snow deprived Gilgit-Baltistan kids and university skiers of showing their ski skills in the winter at Kalabagh and Naltar sloops. Now, the Ski Federation of Pakistan (SFP) is left with very few options whether to cancel or postpone a few winter competitions and reschedule them later.
Talking to The Nation, SFP spokesman Obaid Abbasi said: “The reports from Naltar sloop suggest that there is still not enough snow for the games even children cup inauguration is also not possible. We have, however, only postponed children cup and Sadia Khan Cup and not cancelled both events yet.”
“The SFP has planned to start Winter Games at both the sloops from January 4 to March 5, however, there is still not enough snow at both sloops due to which the organisers are left with no other option but to revise the earlier schedule,” he said.
“The 4th inter-university Women Ski Championship and 4th inter-varsity men ski competitions, which were scheduled at Kalabagh ski sloop, have been cancelled due to less snow in the area. Similarly, the children cup and girls Sadia Khan Trophy have also been postponed. We may conduct both the events after the national ski championship at Naltar,” he added.
Obaid informed that the SFP has to cancel the Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee Cup and inter-services competitions as well due to same reasons. The girls and children have appealed to the federation not to cancel competitions as they have been eagerly waiting for the events since last year.
