Rawalpindi - A court in Gujar Khan on Saturday has sentenced a man to 10 years of vigorous imprisonment for raping an 11-year-old female student. The court also imposed Rs 40,000 fine on the rapist, identified as Muhammad Waheed, son of Muhammad Asghar, who hails from Sihal Khengar, Gujar Khan.
According to details, Additional and Sessions Judge (ASJ) Gujar Khan Muhammad Aslam Gondal has taken up the rape case during which the defense lawyer argued before court that his client Muhammad Waheed was innocent and had not assaulted the girl sexually. Therefore, the court should grant him bail in the case. Opposing the defense arguments, the prosecution told court that the involvement of the accused in the crime had been confirmed through DNA test and other medical reports. Gujar Khan Police had registered a rape case against Muhammad Waheed on September 30, 2015 on complaint of MI, the brother of the victim, who told police that Waheed raped her sister (J) while she was returning home after attending classes at school. Later, police arrested the rapist and produced him before court.
Police raid Sheesha centres, arrest 13 owners
Islamabad police have raided illegal Sheesha centres operating in a private housing society on Saturday and arrested 13 owners, sources informed The Nation on Saturday.
The police also seized a huge quantity of Hukkas, its substances, flavoured tobacco and coals from the possession of Sheesha Centre owners.
The detainees were shifted to Police Stations Lohi Bher and Sihala for further investigation.
After intervention of the Supreme Court, the Ministry of National Health Services had not only imposed ban on import of all kinds of Sheeshas, its substances and flavoured tobacco but also imposed strict ban on operating Sheesha centres. Later on, SCP also directed police to raid all the Sheesha Centres and closed them.
According to sources, the officials of Police Stations Lohi Bher and Sihala, following orders of SSP Operations Islamabad Naqeeb ur Rehman Bagvi, raided the Sheesha centres operating illegally in various phases of a private housing society since long. Police have arrested 13 Sheesha centre owners and recovered scores of Hukkas, its substances, flavoured tobacco and other stuff. Cases were registered against the accused while further investigation was continued.
Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies have recovered a large quantity of drugs including heroin, opium and hashish from a vehicle in Chakri area of Rawalpindi.
According to sources, police along with custom intelligence started snap checking of vehicles on Chakri Road, Rawalpindi. The LEAs signalled to stop a suspected vehicle but the driver instead of stopping sped away the vehicle. However, when the forces chased the driver left the vehicle by roadside near a locality and fled the scene. During search of the vehicle, police recovered contraband comprising 1.5kg heroin, 27kg opium, and 16.5kg hashish. Sources said that a pistol and bullets were also seized from the vehicle.
The LEAs impounded the vehicle with recovered drugs and after registering a case started further investigation.
Meanwhile, Police have arrested five robbers and recovered two pistols from their possession.
According to details, Waris Khan police, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid in Millat Colony area in its jurisdiction and arrested five suspected dacoits namely Abdul Wahab, Osama, Raja Haris, Tahir Ullah and Muhammad Bilal and recovered two 30 bore pistol with 7 rounds from their custody. Further investigation is underway.
