LAHORE - Jamaat-e-Islami Spokesman Amirul Azeem has said the Islami Jamiat Talab is not involved in any kind of violence in Punjab University.

Azeem, addressing a press conference at Lahore Press Club on Saturday, called for forming a full house committee of the Senate including Aitzaz Ahsan to investigate the recent events at the PU.

He said that fanning ethnic biases in the Upper House of the Parliament was tantamount to playing with the national solidarity.

He said that the discussion in the Senate about the Punjab University affairs was biased and far from facts.  He said that the Balochistan Home Minister Sarfraz Bugti’s bid to seek concession for the miscreants through the Punjab education minister and the PU vice-chancellor was a matter of deep concern. “Senate Committee should include Aitzaz Ahsan and Usman Kakar and it should visit the Punjab University and conduct an impartial probe into the recent events. IJT will fully cooperate with the committee.”

He said that if the government pressure came to an end, the campus situation would return to normalcy.

Azeem explained that on January 22, some outsiders were brought to the varsity to sabot age the JT prgramme under a well thought out plan. He said that he was to inaugurate the programme which was however disturbed unilaterally.  He said that the Punjab University had born much oppression and tyranny and the IJT had tolerated all this under a strategy. However, he said, that this would not be allowed anymore.

He said the elements who wanted to defame the IJT had failed.  He demanded that the mischief makers must be handed down deterrent punishment so that nobody could dare to disturb campus peace in future.

He said that the Minister for Higher Education reached the campus with his force which had hurt the image of the varsity. He further said that the former VC Mujahhid Kamran had ruined the varsity atmosphere. He said that Kamran’s  successor tried to put the things in order  but was not allowed to work due to which he had to resign under pressure.
