KARACHI - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan Saturday predicted that deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif will be sentenced for money laundering next month.

Accusing the former prime minister of playing the victim card, the PTI chief said people were perplexed as to why this whole ‘kiyun nikala mujhe (why I was ousted?) drama’ was being played out.

“Nawaz Sharif was trying his best to be sent to jail,” he said, adding that the PML-N chief’s wish will be fulfilled in the money-laundering case. He vowed again to bring back all the looted money to the country and spend it on education if elected to power in the upcoming polls.

Khan said the PTI was fighting against corruption that since last 21 years and this movement is actually against the corrupt people like Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif.

He alleged that Zardari and Sharif looted the national exchequer with both hands and were responsible for putting the country into crisis.

Calling Zardari a certified criminal, Khan also ruled out any future political coalition with the former. “I cannot commit a crime by joining hands with Zardari-led Pakistan People’s Party.”

Khan said Zardari was as corrupt as deposed prime minister Sharif and vowed never to stand with the two political rivals.

He also came down hard on Punjab and Sindh police departments and said the biggest problem of Karachi is its police.

The PTI chairman said that it seems like police in Sindh and Punjab have gone out of control, which has resulted in an increase in extrajudicial killings in the provinces.

He said that rulers of the both the provinces were using the police force for their political gains and depoliticising police is the only way to control the situation.

Praising Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s police, Khan said the PTI government has taken this issue very seriously and has taken key steps to improve the police department that has resulted in a sharp decline in the crime rate in the KP.

He condemned the extrajudicial killing of Naqeebullah Mehsud and demanded early arrest of Rao Anwar.

Meanwhile, PTI central spokesmen Fawad Chaudhry said that Naqeebullah was kidnapped and killed by a hooligan donning the Sindh police uniform. He said the police in Sindh have become politicised and it has failed to provide safety of life and property of citizens.

He said the PPP and PML-N are the two faces of same coin and have failed to serve.

Talking to the media at the residence of PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh, the PTI leader said that fake and staged encounters in Sindh including Karachi are the result of politicising of Sindh police and the provincial government was not interested in bringing serious police reforms.

He said the Sindh government has been paying Rs2.5billion every year to the Rangers for maintaining law and order but failed to bring any meaningful police reforms. He said these rulers want to indulge in their politics of vested interests by recruiting lawbreakers and hooligans in the police force.

He said in past the KP was same as but now the PTI government has transformed it into a professional force and claimed that it is now counted among the best police of the world.

He said the Sindh government has failed to make its police department fully efficient and functional and alleged that political recruitments in Sindh police was the main factor behind rampant corruption and inefficiency in this department. He alleged that from lower to the upper level every department of the Sindh government represents corruption mafia.

He opined that the role of Zardari in Senate election is not for promoting democracy but to secure his vested interests.

He said two fake cases were lodged against PTI Sindh leader Haleem Adil because he raised voice for the rights of downtrodden people and upholding justice. He said Khan has reached Karachi on his two-day visit and soon rallies would be held in whole Sindh. He said the Larkana rally is not cancelled but only postponed and its new date would be announced soon.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser also addressed the media and said they would not leave Karachi people alone. He said the PTI would play its role in helping the bereaved families of Naqeeb and other victims of staged encounters to get justice. He said the KpK assembly has already passed a resolution against the killing of Naqeeb and demanded to expose the faces of this killing mafia.
