LAHORE - A solo exhibition titled ‘The Legendary Bird’ by Huma Wasiq was held at Ocean Art Gallery the other day. The artist has painted oil on canvas paintings with themes of architecture, culture and beautiful birds.

“I have painted uncommon birds and forgotten balconies together to remind our strong roots. Such work of art has been done for the first time in Pakistan,” said Huma Wasiq.

The birds and balcony connation has widely painted by the artists in the past and Huma has contributed in a refreshing way.

Abdul Manan, a visitor told this scribe that even the birds chirping could be heard in the Huma’s paintings.

Huma is a renowned nature artist of Pakistan. She did MFA from Punjab University and received many academic and professional awards including the ‘President of Pakistan Award for Conservation Merit’ and ‘Special Artist Award 2016' from Artist Association of Punjab.

She painted more than four thousand illustrations of different species of birds and mammals in 7 international book publications. These books earned national and international admiration specially ‘Biodiversity of Pakistan’ which was gifted to Pakistan Government by the British Government on Pakistan's 50th anniversary. She contributed her bird illustrations for “A Field Guide to the Birds of Pakistan’ which is also recommended by HEC for MPhil degree in zoological sciences.

 Huma did Artwork for several multinational companies for their nature awareness projects. She painted posters of conservation messages for common man. Working with snow leopard foundation she painted the habitats of snow leopard and Himalayan carnivores that are currently displayed at Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad. She is working as an Art Resource Person at Adventure Foundation Pakistan. The exhibition will continue till 31st Jan.
