As the downpour of monsoon continues, people of Karachi are forced to fear for their accommodations and other necessities of life instead of rejoicing about the romantic weather. It has been over 60 years since Pakistan's inception and yet the citizens are suffering for the basic civic facilities 24 hours after the rains. Electricity was restored in the up market metropolitan areas but the less developed areas were made to suffer power outages, some for more than a week. It is humbly requested that all areas be treated equally and this discrimination be stopped. One feels really sorry for the people whose businesses have been ruined. For students whose precious study time has been wasted and the elderly and sick that were left on the mercy of KESC, here is a word of sympathy. -UROOBA ALAM, Karachi, via e-mail, July 24.
