Musharraf launched Lal Masjid action, says Shujaat

Brushing aside former president Pervez Musharrafs statement regarding the launching of operation against Lal Masjid after winning confidence of PML-Q leadership, Ch Shujaat Hussain has said that Musharraf and then prime minister Shaukat Aziz carried out 'Operation Silence against the Lal Masjid in 2007, without taking them into confidence, reported a private TV channel. The Lal Masjid administration had agreed upon eight out of nine points, but even then operation was ordered and it was a decision taken by Pervez Musharraf and Shaukat Aziz. In a press release on issue on Monday, the PML-Q president made it clear that Pervez Musharraf was informed about the developments achieved through negotiations, but he replied it was too late as the operation had been ordered. Shujaat said late Ghazi Abdul Rashid wanted a safe exit while the government insisted on complete surrender of Lal Masjid administration. He said he had tried his level best to settle the issue by dialogue and reconciliation, but he was rather accused of causing a delay in the action.
