Doha, Qatar - In continuation of last years fund-raising campaign for flood victims of Pakistan, paintings by Mehreen Hasan were put on display at Al-Wakra Stadium on Family Funfair organised by the Pakistan Women Association recently. The display not only included paintings but also greeting cards and book marks of her art works which were sold for charity. Since last year, she has been able to raise almost QR 4500 courtesy to bright future who permitted her to use their esteemed organisation for fund raising. It was heartening to see the enthusiastic students spend their entire pocket money on purchase of these items. Her stall titled ART FOR CHARITY encompassed paintings from different collections of art works. It included paintings from a calligraphic series titled Awakening. This series is an extension of her previous art works and a continuation of the same nationalistic theme, but the inspiration for these paintings came from the Holy Quran.PR These 50 designs have been divided into five sets of 10. She has chosen two colours for these paintings, black and white. The black symbolises the depravity and emptiness experienced by the people of Pakistan; however white signifies the purity of thought, as seen in the flag of Pakistan and her hope for our future. The sole purpose of this series is to create awareness among the people of Pakistan. If we as a nation want to survive as a country, we must shift from black state to a state of white one. (PR)
