MIRPUR (AJK) - Jammu & Kashmir Joint Chamber of Commerce & Industry here on Wednesday welcomed the launching of more CBMs comprising additional measures announced by governments of Pakistan and India after Wednesday foreign ministers-level talks held in Delhi to expand the scope of cross-LOC Trade and Travel. New CBMs include increase in trade days from 2 to 4 in a week, Introduction of Travel Permit for 6 months with multiple Entries to be issued within a maximum time period of 45 days, Facilitation of regular Meetings of Chamber of Commerce and Industry from both sides, Strengthening of Telecommunication Facilities for cross LOC Trade and Provision of adequate facilities at Trade Facilitation Centres on both sides. Talking to the newsmen the President Jammu & Kashmir Joint Chamber Zulfiqar Abbasi said that all the measures announced in the joint statement have been studied diligently by the business community across the Line of Control and positive and forward moving steps have been hailed and acknowledged by the members of the Joint Chamber and LOC Traders across the Line of Control. However, the President Joint Chamber Mr Zulfiqar Abbasi, expressed his serious concerns on delaying the banking facility and continuing the LOC Trade on barter system, which, in his view, has deprived majority of Kashmiris on both sides of the LOC to participate in this trade, limiting this noble initiative to only a few divided families. Mr Abbasi also observed that review on List of items and expansion of Trade List should have been made time bound and an effective mechanism should also have been set in place. Abbasi demanded that the banking facility must be kept in place without any further delay whereas process of inclusion of further tradable items in the Trade List must be completed in consultation with Joint Chamber and regional chambers before the third anniversary of the cross LOC Trade in October this year. The President Joint Chamber, while thanking the governments \\of Pakistan and India for expansion of CBMs across the LOC, reiterated that LOC Trade shall help create a peaceful and helping environment to seek a sustaining and peaceful solution of Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
