KARACHI - Different areas across the city are facing prolonged power outages in scorching heat and extreme hot and humid summer, while Karachi Electricity Supply Company (KESC) continued unannounced hours long loadshedding on Wednesday despite successful negotiations between the KESC employees and administration. According to details, different areas in the city including Liaqatabad, Nazimabad, Korangi, Malir, New Karachi, Orangi Town, Surjani Town and FB Industrial Area and New Karachi Industrial Area are much affected areas experiencing worst-ever loadshedding spanning over 18 hours a day. The unavailability of electricity has created acute shortage of potable water, while the business activities had suffered the most, rendering a large number of people jobless. The residents said that inflated electricity bills had also plagued customers of the utility, while millions of Karachiites are facing immense problems due to loadshedding. The power outages are not only affecting routine daily life but are also seriously affecting the businesses of the people, they said. They added when they did not use electricity for 10 to 12 hours daily due to loadshedding and power outages, their the electricity tariff should not be increased. On the other side, the sources in the KESC claimed that utility had adequate power generation capacity to cater to the needs of Karachi.
