ISLAMABAD Mian Nawaz Sharif, who was elected unopposed President of PML-N on Wednesday, launched a tirade against government, saying his party cant allow the corrupt PPP government to ridicule the judiciary any more. Ruling out any compromise on upholding law and the Constitution, Nawaz said the PPP government was not implementing verdicts of Supreme Court to protect the corrupt. PML-N will not hesitate to launch another movement for protecting the judiciary, he declared, adding that he could not remain silent over governments corruption and its complete defiance of the apex court. He said he was facing the taunt of political isolation for doing politics of principles but he was proud of it. We take pride in the fact that we are alone today since we havent become part of political opportunists. PML-N will continue to fight solo as we dont need any clutches for our struggle to flourish true democracy. He said it was due to the policies of the corrupt PPP government that democracy was being defamed at home and abroad. The PML-N chief believed that present government had no solution to countrys problems, and was promoting hypocrisy in the name of reconciliation which was being pursued either throw blackmailing, inducement or browbeating. A few people are destroying the country just to fill their pockets with looted money; but we will not let this happen with peoples support, he warned, adding that peoples power was stronger than that of the gun. Addressing partymen on the occasion, Shahbaz Sharif said that country was being ruled by what he called Zardaris Ali Baba and 40 thieves. He said if allowed by Nawaz Sharif to resign [as chief minister Punjab] he would go to every nook and corner of the country and send Mr Zardari packing. He lamented that judiciary was being ridiculed almost every day. He sought his elder brothers permission to surround those looting the country, as, according to him, it was necessary to crush the idols of corruption. Shahbaz said Zardari riches belonged to labourers and poor of this country and it will have to be brought back. He said he was ready to sacrifice Punjab government to restore judiciarys honour. Shahbaz said government could go to any extent to conceal its own and its allies corruption. He said attitude of the president and the prime minister with regard to implementation of court orders was pitiable. Shahbaz said he felt relieved after shifting of the burden of partys presidentship to Nawaz Sharifs shoulders. I am content with my present office of Khadim-e-Punjab, he observed. Speaking on the occasion, Javed Hashmi said that existence of Pakistan was inter-linked with PML-N which was mother of Pakistan. He said he had counseled Nawaz Sharif not to vote for Zardari who had no regard for morality and principles. Hashmi said he was still unhappy with Nawaz Sharif for giving no importance to his advice. He said it was time to save the country because there would be no PML-N and Nawaz Sharif if we lost it. I do certain daring acts before my leadership and will continue to do it in future as well, he said in a lighter vein. He said he had requested Nawaz Sharif that he should not be given any party office, but he rejected my plea. Earlier, PML-N leader Iqbal Zafar Jhagra announced that Nawaz Sharif was elected President unopposed by the Partys General Council meeting. Outgoing Acting PML-N President, Javed Hashmi had proposed the name of Nawaz Sharif while Party Chairman, Raja Zafar-ul- Haq supported the nomination. Jhagra informed the General Council that no other candidate filed the papers for the slot of party President. He said that according to elections result, Javed Hashmi, Sartaj Aziz, Sardar Yaqoob Nasir, Raja Farooq Haider and Syed Ghous Ali Shah have also been elected Senior Vice Presidents. Ahsan Iqbal and Mushahid Ullah Khan were elected as Partys Deputy Secretary General and Secretary Information respectively. The PML-Ns general council did not elect partys Secretary General in its Wednesdays sitting and deferred the matter to some other day. All the new office bearers were elected unopposed as a consensus was already developed by the partys leadership regarding the reorganization of party. The General Council of PML-N also approved the amendments in the Party Constitutions. Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Partys Members of National and Provincial Assemblies, more than 1,500 members of PML-N General Council from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhah, Balochistan, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Islamabad attended the meeting.
