LAHORE Like other parts of the globe, World Hepatitis Day will be observed across the country including the City today (Thursday) with the purpose to renew commitment against a largely silent but persistent epidemic. July 28, 2011 marks the first official World Health Organisation-supported World Hepatitis Day, which is being coordinated in partnership with the World Hepatitis Alliance. In Pakistan, seminars, workshops and walks will be organised both at the government and the private levels to raise public awareness about the diseases and precautionary measures to avoid it. Hepatitis kills more than one million people every year. Millions more suffer immediate sickness or long-term ill health. World Hepatitis Day provides an opportunity to recognise viral hepatitis as a major global health problem in order to advance prevention and control.
