The death toll from the consumption of poisonous liquor has reached 20 on Saturday here.

According to details, several people fell unconscious after consuming poisonous liquor in different areas of Batala Colony. The victims were first rushed to private hospitals in the area but later moved to Allied Hospital when their condition deteriorated.

CPO Abdul Razzaq Chima said that two incidents of consuming toxic liquor occurred one in jurisdiction of Batala Colony Police and the second in Gulberg Police.

According to hospital sources, the deaths occurred after the victims consumed toxic alcohol at a party their friend had thrown in Faisalabad’s Batala Colony. The sources further informed that more than 10 people are still under treatment at the hospital.

According to sources, a lot of people fell sick after imbibing large amounts of homemade liquor at a party on Thursday night.

The district administration had earlier confirmed the death of eight persons. On the other hand, DCO Anjum Ahmed Shah said that the toll now stood at 15 after the death of more persons. Eleven victims are still being treated out of which four are said to be in critical condition.

The relatives of the deceased told that the toll is above 20. Sources said the locally distilled liquor was methanol-tainted, which led to the deaths.

Hospital sources said some of the sick were discharged after their stomachs were washed, however a few of them were yet critical. The DCO told that four bootleggers, whom the liquor was purchased from, were arrested during raids.
