QUETTA - Hazara Town residents gunned down a suicide bomber who along with his accomplices was trying to target an Imam Bargah in the area on Saturday.

According to eye-witnesses, a suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest and his two accomplices entered Hazara Town, a Shia-dominated area. The terrorists were perhaps trying to reach near the Imambargah that remains congested most of the time just before Iftar timings. They opened fire when private guards of Hazara community intercepted them. The suicide bomber was killed while his accomplices managed to flee from the scene when Hazara community guards retaliated to the fire.

Being informed, police rushed to the site and took the body into custody.

Talking to media, DIG Operations Fayyaz Sumbal confirmed the incident, saying the residents had killed the suspect who was hit a bullet in his head. “The deceased had put on a suicide jacket,” he said, adding that a search had been started in the area to arrest other accused.

Meanwhile, a man gunned down his wife at Balochi Street in Quetta on Saturday. According to police, accused Ahmed Waqar opened fire on his wife namely Alia Bibi. She sustained serious wounds and was hurried to hospital, but she died on the way. The accused managed to flee from the scene.

Being informed about the incident, police reached on the spot and shifted the body to hospital for medico-legal formalities. Investigation was underway and motive behind the incident could be a domestic issue, police said.
