Following the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Anti-Dengue Day was observed across Punjab as different events like seminars and walks were held to sensitise the masses to elimination of dengue larva and precautionary measures to avert resurgence of the dengue fever.

As per detail, in Faisalabad an awareness walk were arranged by the Health Department which were led by MNAs - Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan, Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari, MPA Beghum Najma Afzal, Haji Khalid Saeed, DCO Najam Ahmed Shah, CPO Abdur Razzaq Cheema, Director Health Services Jawed Omer, DO Health Dr Muhammad Nawaz, Wasa MD Syed Zahid Aziz, PHA MD Ashiq Dogar and others.

The walk started from Hilal-e-Ahmer Chowk, culminated at Health Department Office after passing through Gumti Chowk and outside Rail Bazaar. The participants of the walk were carrying banners and placards inscribing with different slogans against dengue and precautionary measures to avoid dengue virus.

At the end, Legislators including Rana Muhammad Afzal, Haji Akram Ansari, Begum Najma Afzal and Haji Khalid Seed while talking to the media said that the objective of Anti-Dengue Day was to sensitise the citizens about the dengue issue and said that it was a social issue which could be overcome with active cooperation and assistance of the community. They highlighted the measures taken by the Punjab govt to control the dengue on war-footing.

On the occasion, DCO Najam Ahmad Shah said that multi-dimensional steps were being taken to avert the danger of dengue but the citizens should also realize their responsibilities to stop the dengue breeding within their houses.

Moreover, an awareness walk was also held at DHQ Hospital which was led by Medical Superintendent Dr Arif Ali and Additional MS Dr Habib Ahmad Butter. The doctors and paramedical staff and general public also participated in the walk.

Similarly a seminar was held at Allied Hospital in connection was the Anti-Dengue Day which was addressed by MS Dr Rashid Maqbool and Additional MS Dr Khurram Altaf.

Meanwhile, speakers at a seminar on Saturday called for expedited efforts on the part of individual and society to fight dengue by removing filth, garbage and accumulated water from their localities.

The seminar on dengue was arranged by the Department of Entomology, University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF). The participants of the seminar also took out an awareness walk led by UAF VC Dr Iqrar Ahmad, MNA Haji Akram Ensari and MPA Haji Khalid Saeed. The walk started from Admin Bock of the university and concluded at Iqbal Auditorium. Faculty of Agriculture Dean Dr Muhammad Arshad, Department of Entomology Chairman Dr Muhammad Jalal Arif, Dr Anjum Sohail and Dr Khuram Zia also spoke on the occasion.

Addressing the seminar, Dr Iqrar praised the steps being taken on the part of the Punjab government as it (dengue) was controlled within a short span of time whereas other countries took years to limit the disease. He said misconception regarding dengue prevailed in the society that needed to be eliminated through proper awareness among people. He urged the students to keep home, environment and surrounding hygienic and remove all stagnant water and containers; avoid accumulation of ground water; fill up all defective grounds and don’t store water.

Similarly in MINCHINABAD, the TMA arranged a walk and seminar to raise awareness against dengue fever here the other day.

As per detail, the Tehsil Municipal Administration organised a walk and seminars here in Minchinabad and Mandi Sadiq Ganj as a part of its campaign to create awareness against the eradication of dengue larva and highlight precautionary measures.

Assistant Commissioner Ch Arshad Mehmood Sidhu led the walk which was attended by a large number of people from all walks of life including doctors, artisans, students and government employees. The participants were carrying placards and banners inscribed with different awareness slogans.

Addressing a ‘Dengue Awareness Seminar’ held at TMA office, the AC said that dengue was a curable disease and effective awareness was necessary to avert breeding of dengue mosquitoes. He said that main objective of the anti-dengue awareness walk and seminar was to create educate the masses about the disease. He said that the government alone cannot eliminate dengue virus from every house and community will have to come forward to eliminate dengue once and for all.
